I switched boards today and went out with the Gnu Money... a budget board that not specifically great at anything but it's pretty good at everything... and I also remembered to pack the clear lens today... woot! The Money is new and has the Phantom application as well so it'll be a few more slow days in order to get this board broken in.
My day started off with being followed for 45 minutes by a king county sheriff into the mountains and eventually pulled over for following too closely in a turn. We had a conversation about safe driving distances that was no more than 5 minutes and he wished me a safe day on the mountain... I still got a pretty good parking space when I arrived... off to a decent start.
There was some scattered snowfall last night and the entire mountain was covered in fog, so I decided to start with 7th heaven chair and get straight to it... the steeps!! A huge group of skiers went up right before me but thankfully didn't clog up the path that is quite unfriendly to snowboarders (steep, narrow, short). I went down some of the moguls just off to the left before starting to head back towards Tye Mill (access to the backside) and away from all the nearby cliffs... on my way over I hit a knee-deep powder puddle, fell down, and then dug myself out... after getting back on my feet, I cut through a pretty sweet patch of trees that I need to get back around to next time *_*
I spent a lot of time in the trees between Pegasus and the Southern Cross looking for trees to split (wherever there was enough powder) and for tree wells to help pack in. The occasional patches of ice kept me on high alert and also reminded me that my knees are still aching from yesterday's riding... overall, a solid warm-up.
I met a skier on the lift and we got to talking about steeps... which inspired me to head over to Double Diamond and check out how ridable it was... and it was!!! There was adequate coverage on the big moguls (drooly emoji) and even enough snow to safely split some trees... I took three laps through and hit a lot of fresh spots venturing deep into the woods and finding places where trees had dropped a load... it might be worthwhile to break out the LibTech Orca next time ^_^
Overall, was a great day on the mountain... best of 2021!! ... but my rib is really hurting now, most likely from the extra steep terrain... I hope it's nothing too serious but I'll probably rest until next weekend to be safe.
